Rachel SobenesDesmé

Artist, Maker, Mover, Shaker

As a Creative, Rachel is an explorer. She brings a wide range of interests to the table and pushes herself to “cross-pollinate” techniques from many different mediums to create a new expression of fiber art. She most relies on crochet, knitting, macramé, hook work and needle punch.

As her awareness grows of the critical damages the textile and plastic industries are wrecking on the earth and sea, so does her determination to maintain zero-waste material sourcing and practices. She does this by restricting what she buys new to less than 10% of her materials. Associated with that mission is her use of single use plastics like shopping bags, bottle lids and straws as the infrastructure for many of her coral shapes.

While fiber art is Rachel’s main medium, she also paints, sews, and does some wood burning. Some of those items will occasionally show up on this site for purchase.

Commission works keep Rachel busy for most of the time. Her work is found in beautiful restaurants, boutique hotels and many a large wall in residential homes.

Rachel, her husband and three children reside in beautiful St. Augustine, Florida.
